The CHS dean’s office is pleased to welcome three new faculty fellows who will assist us in the areas of faculty affairs, academic affairs and development of internships, badges and experiential learning.

Brooke Newman, an associate professor in the Department of History, will be a faculty fellow focused on faculty affairs. A scholar of early modern Britain and the British Atlantic, with current special interest in the history of slavery, the abolition movement and the British royal family, Newman brings expertise and interest in mentoring, professional development and faculty career trajectories.

Jon Waybright is an associate professor in the School of World Studies, where he teaches in the religious studies program.  Waybright will be a faculty fellow focused on academic affairs. The current chair of the CHS Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, Waybright will share his experience in curriculum development, student learning assessment and student engagement to this process.

Joshua Smith is an assistant professor in the Robertson School of Media and Culture, where he teaches public relations and spearheads a new course on artificial intelligence. Passionate about internship opportunities, experiential learning, micro-credentials and innovative curriculum, Smith will offer collaborative opportunities for CHS departments seeking to expand in these areas.

Our current faculty fellow Laura Middlebrooks, associate professor in the School of World Studies, will continue the successful offering of our summer series Promotion in Motion to support faculty preparing for promotion reviews in 2025.

We look forward to the contributions of these faculty fellows in the coming academic year.
