Against Natural Order: Discretionary Scarcity and the Structure of Money

College: Reynolds Community College

Project summary: Economic liberalism hides the political nature of money by treating it as a neutral or "natural" system, even though access to money is limited and structured by power. This idea helps justify financial inequality and obscures how money has historically functioned to reinforce social hierarchies, from early banking to modern financial markets. By examining this system more closely, we can better understand how credit flows shape society and reveal the real forces behind monetary scarcity.
