AI Resources for Students
Discover how to study, apply, and understand artificial intelligence across disciplines at the College of Humanities and Sciences.
AI Education for Students at CHS
At the College of Humanities and Sciences, you have more ways to study artificial intelligence than anywhere else at VCU. AI is not confined to a single program or discipline. It is explored across courses in media, mathematics, philosophy, health, history, and more, giving you the flexibility to connect AI to your interests and career goals.
Whether you are just getting started or looking to go deeper, CHS offers multiple entry points through general education, interdisciplinary coursework, and hands-on opportunities. This approach helps you build not only technical awareness, but also the critical thinking, ethical understanding, and applied skills needed to navigate a world shaped by AI.
AI Studies Minor
The AI Studies minor offers one of the most flexible and interdisciplinary ways to study artificial intelligence at VCU. Rather than following a single track, you explore AI across multiple fields, connecting it to communication, culture, data, ethics, health, and more.
With more than 20 courses available, you can shape the minor around your interests and career goals. Whether you want to examine the ethics of AI, apply it in media and communication, explore its role in health and society, or strengthen your foundation in data and computation, the curriculum gives you multiple ways to engage with AI in meaningful and practical contexts.
The minor requires 18 credit hours, including at least nine credits at the 300 level or higher, and is designed to be accessible to students from any major.

Whether you are pursuing a degree in the humanities, social sciences, or STEM, this minor helps you build skills and perspectives that strengthen your academic work and prepare you for future careers.
Important
When declaring your minor, be sure to select AI Studies in Humanities and Sciences (AIS).
Why Minor in AI in Humanities and Sciences?
Studying AI through the humanities gives you an edge that technology alone cannot. As AI systems become more capable, the skills that matter most are the ones machines cannot replicate: critical thinking, ethical judgment, communication, and understanding people. This minor prepares you to work with AI while understanding its impact on society, culture, and decision-making. We offer more ways to study AI across disciplines.
