Dear alums and friends,

We are between two important and exciting celebrations in the life of the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences — the topping out of the STEM building and spring Commencement.

On May 4, we celebrated a construction milestone for the new STEM building with the placement of the final steel beam. When the building opens in fall 2023, it will welcome 10,000 students each semester in as many as 70 courses.

This coming Saturday, we will recognize and congratulate 1,755 students at our spring Commencement. These students have shown incredible resolve and determination. I am so proud of their commitment to learning, and I know that their drive to meet challenges and succeed will serve them well beyond their time at VCU.

I hope you can take a moment to read some of this month’s stories — I know you, too, will find more than one reason to be proud of the College of Humanities and Sciences. Take good care.

Jennifer Malat, Ph.D.
