Dear alums and friends,

I am pleased to announce that Catherine Ingrassia, Ph.D., has been appointed interim dean beginning July 1. She brings nearly 30 years of experience at VCU, including seven years (2005-11) in the College of Humanities and Sciences’ Dean’s Office where she served as associate dean for academic affairs and executive associate dean for research and graduate affairs. She began her career at VCU in 1992 as assistant professor of English, rising through the ranks of promotion and tenure to become associate professor in 1998 and full professor in 2005. She most recently served as chair of the Department of English beginning in 2019.

I am so grateful for the years I have spent working in the College, and I look forward to seeing all the meaningful ways it will continue to lead the university in the future. Despite the pandemic, the College made enormous strides in how we work with a renewed focus on student retention, recruitment and success, equity and inclusion, and support for research. These achievements are possible because of the commitment and engagement of our entire community, including you, our alumni and friends.

I am honored to have served this College as dean. Again, I thank you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Malat, Ph.D.
Dean
VCU College of Humanities and Sciences
