Sylvia Rozario, Ph.D., received her doctorate in epidemiology from the VCU School of Medicine in July 2019 and earned her M.P.H. from VCU in 2015. Rozario is originally from Bangladesh and received her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree from the Sher-E-Bangla Medical College at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.
Rozario's research interest is in maternal and child health epidemiology. Her research focuses on maternal morbidities, intimate partner violence, maternal mental health, maternal physical activity and interpregnancy interval affecting the pregnancy outcome. For her dis- sertation, she investigated the role of certain psychosocial and health behavioral factors in pregnancy induced hypertension using a social determinants of health approach. She won numerous honors and awards and her research works were published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals during her time as a student at VCU.
Rozario is passionate about and committed to teaching and mentoring students. As a strong believer of benefits of active learning, she wishes to promote a highly collaborative and vibrant learning environment within the department as well as among broader networks of teachers, researchers and students on the VCU campus and beyond.
