Jan Rychtář, Ph.D., earned a doctorate in 2004 from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. He was a professor at UNC Greensboro before joining VCU in fall 2019.
He co-authored the book “Game-Theoretical Models in Biology” and more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he was the principal investigator on multiple NSF grants, received the 2015 UNCG Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award, 2014 Department of Mathematics and Statistics Award for Distinguished Service, 2012-13 UNCG Junior Research Excellence Award and 2008 UNCG CAS Teaching Excellence Award.
Rychtář supervised the research of more than 70 undergraduate students.
He was a vice chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science division of the Council of Undergraduate Research 2015-18, treasurer of the MAA Undergraduate Research SIGMAA and is an editor, associate editor or guest editor of nine journals, most notably Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine and Dynamic Games and Applications. He founded and organized the annual UNCG Regional Mathematics and Statistics Conference from 2005 to 2018.
