Alaattin Kaya, Ph.D., earned a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013. He joined VCU from Harvard Medical School where he worked as a junior faculty member in the Department of Medicine, Division of Genetics.

Primarily, he is studying the evolution of aging and role of genomic instability and DNA damage in aging and age associated diseases using several different model organisms, including budding yeast, fruit fly and naked-mole rat.
