As associate dean for graduate studies and strategic initiatives, Dr. Acevedo is responsible for ensuring that graduate students have access to all the resources necessary for academic success. In addition, he coordinates the timely development (including revisions) of a strategic plan, monitors the metrics associated with the goal in the CHS strategic plan and supports the implementation of the dean’s strategic initiatives.
The associate dean for graduate studies and strategic initiatives provides leadership for the components of the related to advancing graduate studies. In addition, the associate dean ensures the vision for graduate studies integrates with the larger strategic goals of the College and in turn the university. The associate dean supports communications among graduate students, graduate program directors, department chairs/directors, the CHS dean and the dean of the Graduate School. The associate dean also leads efforts in graduate student recruitment, strategic enrollment management, student retention and graduation rates, program assessment and the development of new programs aligned with the VCU mission and strategic priorities. Furthermore, the associate dean supports mentoring programs for graduate students and graduate faculty members. Utilizing a data-informed, transparent process linked to the CHS mission and goals, the associate dean allocates graduate assistants across graduate programs.
In addition, the associate dean for graduate studies and strategic initiatives coordinates the timely development (including revisions) of a strategic plan, monitora the metrics associated with the goal in the and supports the implementation of the dean’s strategic initiatives. Tasks may include but are not limited to supporting academic units with the development of unit level strategic plans, coordinating faculty cluster hiring activities, establishing corporate partnerships that support our academic mission, participating in the development of marketing and recruitment activities and materials, and facilitating the activities of the CHS Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee.
